There was a point of no return that they flirted with. Kissing in private places. Letting furtive hands swiftly slide over arms and backs and thighs in front of prying eyes.

Exchanging glances.

But they never talked about more. Never talked about that line they were flirting with.

Never acknowledged in private or public that they were walking a fine line.

So they never said the words. As if giving voice to feelings and actions would somehow ruin what they had. Would somehow push them over an edge where they'd have to decide....

...if it was love.
